john henry brookes building opening

Here are a few snaps of our new library and union building: it is an architectural beauty which finally opened last week like a glorious gift of gargantuan proportions. And it's had everyone talking; there's a real buzz about the place.
The building is generous, beautiful materials have not been designed out on account of budgeting and it really makes such a difference in the overall impression of the space. It's all about the detail, after all.

Natural daylight flows throughout whilst the light quality in certain spaces like corridors, captivate the eye like positive beams of sunshine.

Though it is disappointing that there doesn't seem to be any more computer space than before; people are still left wandering around in search of an unoccupied one, there is an abundance of space - everywhere in fact - in which surely more facilities could be slotted in. I hope you're listening, SU.

That said, the architecture does have everyone excited; its quality is of a high - almost glamorous - standard that far exceeds that of the dated spaces in the oldest parts of the university. Nothing cutting edge going on with the design, but it's definitely archilicious.

I'll be seeing you there!
